Story
This years challenge explores the beauty of the Cleveland way, our incredible group will take on a 25 mile loop starting in Great Ayton, climbing roseberry topping across to Captain Cooks monument, through Kildale, Battersby, Rosedale Rail track, Lyke wake, Great Broughton before returning to Great Ayton - and the biggest challenge is we’ll be attempting this in a day!
We’re raising money for a very special boy Eben, who was diagnosed with Ullrichs Congenital Muscular Dystrophy (UCMD)aged 2 and a half. Which means Eben’s muscles are unable to produce Collagen IV protein.
UCMD is a severe, life-limiting, progressive condition that leads to extreme muscle weakness. It affects the skeletal muscles which impacts areas like walking, Eben is unable to walk or stand and uses a wheelchair, he is also likely to face respiratory issues, muscle contractures and scoliosis later in life. Treatments and equipment are available to help manage these but sadly, there is currently no cure for UCMD. however there is hope in the form of promising research being done in this area.
80% of funds raised will go towards UCMD research and 20% will be kept in a welfare account for Eben's future needs.
