Story

I am participating in the 10 Mile Great South Run on 15th October 2023 to raise funds and awareness for Huntingtons Disease (HD).

I first did this race with Mum in 2019 just 15 months after having my right foot amputated. I additionally have Autism, Tourette’s and OCD so anything like this is especially challenging for me physically and mentally. I used my Alinker walking bike to complete the race and became an official Guinness World Record Titleholder. Great Run also named me as one their most inspirational runners of the 2019 season.

This year Mum and I are leading a team of people running for Huntington’s Disease Association (HDA) again on my Alinker. I will make an attempt to smash my own Guinness World Record too!

We are all running because we all know someone who has been impacted by HD and we want to show up for those people to raise awareness so they can get the help and support they need.

50% of the funds raised will go to the Hants & IOW HDA Branch to support local families, 25% will go to the Dorset HDA Branch and 25% will go to the HDA’s main fund to help support families across the country and fund research.

I have personally raised over £4,000 for the HDA with a range of challenges, not just races. I am a finalist in this year’s Solent Region BBC Make a Difference Awards for my fundraising efforts for HDA this past year including my 50:50 Challenges.

You can follow me on my Instagram @harleysalter for updates and progress. And also see there what else I have done for HD!

The HDA supports anyone who is affected by Huntington's disease across England and Wales. We pursue the best possible care; provide training & advice to families and professionals; raise awareness, and promote research towards better treatment and care.
