Story
A year ago a 7 mile walk through central London would not have seemed like a ‘challenge’, and certainly not one where we could have imagined looking for sponsorship. Life can change very fast.
Every day around 55 people in the UK are diagnosed with lymphoma. Last July I became one of these. I knew very little about the different types of blood cancer, what it all meant and the treatment available.
I was diagnosed with T-Cell lymphoma, and over the last 10 months have been through multiple rounds of treatment including chemotherapy, radiotherapy and in January, a stem-cell transplant. At times during this process even a short walk round the block seemed almost impossible.
Signing up for the Bridges Walk has been a motivation to get outside and walk, helping physical and mental recovery. We’re going to do the walk as a family which is appropriate as getting through the last year has been a real team effort.
We’re raising money for Lymphoma Action, a great charity that provide information and support to those going through diagnosis and treatment. Every £3 we raise could give someone access to the booklets and resources that we found so useful in understanding this disease. We’re aiming to raise at least £600, and so support 200 people to get hold of these materials. You can find out more at https://lymphoma-action.org.uk/.
The Bridges of London Walk is on Sunday 19 May and is a 7 mile route crossing London's most iconic bridges from Vauxhall to Tower Bridge. Please help us if you can!
