Bowland Pennine MRT provides 365-day Mountain Search and Rescue service in rural and urban districts of Lancashire, and beyond when assisting other teams. Police or the Ambulance call out the team when our services are required Team Area is from Cumbria border, the west coast, A59 & South Pennines

Story

We are Team Lean Beans, one of the groups from Whalley Smiley ESU taking part in hiking the Yorkshire 3 peaks, a 24 mile trek with 5000 feet of vertical ascent, over Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. This should take us roughly 12 hours.

This may seem like a tough feat, but the team at Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team, which consists of 100% volunteers, tackles challenges over distance and rough terrain around 70 times every year. They operate on callout from the Police and Ambulance services 24/7, 365 days a year.

Their brave efforts make sure that hikers and anyone else who may end up in trouble in the mid-pennine region they cover have the best possible chance of returning safely.

The team's website (https://www.bowlandpenninemrt.org.uk/) details recent incidents as well as the current numbers of volunteers as well as their incredible history. Its really worth a look if you have a couple of minutes spare.
