I am running some of the MK Marathon as part of the Team Toybox Relay Team. Toybox works alongside children, young people, and their caregivers living on some of the world's most dangerous streets. Through projects tackling issues such as the lack of official registration documents, access to education, healthcare, and the justice system as well as supporting employment opportunities, training, and providing emergency response Toybox is changing the world for these children and offering them the hope of a future.
In October '24 I had the privilege of visiting Toybox-supported work in Nairobi. Having travelled to see various aspects of the organisation's work historically I thought I was prepared for what we would see and the children we would meet. But this trip hit harder. It was the first time I had seen our work since having my own two boys. We visited an area of Nairobi and met a group of young boys, all aged between 5 and 8, who were sleeping in the doorway of a shop. I could not get the image of my children (3 & 6) sleeping in their comfy beds in our house out of my mind. It broke my heart, reminding me why I am committed to my job. It reminded me why I am committed to challenging the injustices of children living and working on the streets.
Please donate to sponsor me as I take on this run, but ultimately sponsor me so more children can escape the brutality of street life.
