Story
Welcome to the fundraising page for Team Walky McWalkyson 2025. We have been a fundraising team for Macmillan since 2019 when we did our very first Mighty Hike and got hooked on the amount of sweets you can consume with the excuse of fundraising! We have now raised over £16,000 and would love to get close to the £20,000 point this year.
This year we are planning on completing five amazing events! We are tackling the 12 mile canal path from Manchester to Lymm with twelve kids and three dog in tow while other members of the team walk part of the coastal path in Cornwall. A few weeks later Matt is planning on smashing his PB at the Manchester 10K and then in September B2PM will be walking up Snowdon at night and the icing on the cake will be a Macmillan Coffee Morning with everyone from Charlotte Searle Dance Fit!
We feel so proud of everything we have raised for Macmillan over the years and are so so grateful to everyone who has sponsored us! It really does mean the world to us! We know that times are tough and there are many great causes out there to sponsor but if you could spare a few pounds for Team Walky McWalkyson then we promise to eat our body weight in sweets to get ourselves over the finish lines!

Recap
For those of you who are new to our charity raising shenanigans … we started hiking for Macmillan back in 2019 as our team captain Laura was recovering from her breast cancer treatment. With her parents, brother and sister in tow, the team raised over £3000 … fuelled mainly by skittles and smarties! Then the dreaded Covid struck and after a cancellation in 2020 we tackled another hike in 2021 with the Amazing Anna joining the team … resulting in a celebratory night in a yurt with the kids and a very old bottle of champagne! With another £1900 raised we were prepping for our next hike when Laura started treatment again, this time for ovarian cancer. After surgery and chemo we hiked again in 2022 with three amazing new team members in the form of the Lovely Lou, Victorious Vicky and Magnificent Matt! The next year we tackled two more hikes … the Giants Causeway and the Peak District and also welcomed some mini members to the team who did the Little Mudder!
Last year was our toughest challenges as we tackled the London Mighty Hike a few days after finding out that Jane [aka, our lovely mum] had pancreatic cancer. We walked a gruelling 26 miles with new team members Russ, Ann and Nina and completed another 10 miles a few weeks later with our mini hikers who took on Rivington Pike.
Mum passed away in March this year and we knew that we could do nothing better in her memory than tie up our walking boots and raise some money for Macmillan.
When we did our first Mighty Hike in 2019 Mum said that there was absolutely no way she would ever do another one … and then she signed up again in 2022, 2023 and 2024. We have so many fond memories of walking with Mum over the years, as children in the Lake District – us whinging that the route was too long / too muddy / too hilly, and then as grown ups along the coastal path in Robin Hoods Bay, chatting about life.
Our wonderful Mum will be missed so much and we know that she will be there in spirit, our pillar of strength, eating smarties with achy legs and muddy boots.
