Story
Teddy's great-grandma, Marge, spent her last days being cared for by the wonderful staff at St Francis Hospice in Berkhamsted. Whilst she passed away in December of 2022 when Teddy was only 3 years old, we visit the hospice garden of remembrance regularly and talk to Teddy about Marge's life. Teddy will often remember or mention her when he sees a white feather, or a robin in the garden.
The Hospice helps people to live their precious lives well. Their care has many forms – at home, in their outpatient Spring Centre or through specialised care in one of the Hospice beds - and is defined by each person's need. They rely on donations to raise the £6m they need each year to fund free care. Support is ever more important, as NHS funding covers less than 20% of their running costs.
When we heard about the Bubble Rush 5k and the chance to raise some money for the hospice, we discussed it with Teddy, his own words were "I want to do it for Grandma!".
