Channel Swim Relay August 2026
All of my life I have been swimming and enjoying the sea/open water. It has given me so much, I have learnt so much about myself and the benefits of open water.
As an open water swimming coach and open water lifeguard I spend my time encouraging others to overcome their fears and try open water swimming. I love seeing the moment of realisation that comes only minutes after stepping into the water and experiencing the natural highs of cold water and an amazing swimming community.
Over the last few years I have challenged myself to swimming throughout the year and in water temperatures that range from 25*C down to 3.5*C. I have completed a range of personal and team challenges including winter swim challenges, a 24 hr team challenge and the Thames Marathon but...
now it is time for me to give something back and I am doing this by swimming the English Channel as part of a relay supporting SwimTayka.
SwimTayka enable people all around the world to be safe near water, I believe this is something that is a vitally important skill for any community that live near open water, regardless where in the world they are.
Drowning is a silent epidemic that claims an estimated 360,000 lives every year, many of them children.
Drowning is the 3rd leading cause of unintentional injury death worldwide. These are wasted lives and preventable deaths. SwimTayka's mission is to give disadvantaged communities around the world access to swimming teachers who can not only provide the life skills of swimming but create a legacy for today's children, who will grow up to teach the next generation.
