For my 40th and Lucian's 16th we have decided to complete the 4 day Inca Trail trek from Cusco to Machu Picchu in Peru. We will be trekking 10km a day through the mountains and jungle and camping 3 nights. We are doing this to raise 5k for BCH and every donation will make a difference. When my son Teddi (Lucian little brother) was only 3 months old he was airlifted to BCH and resuscitated and ventilated only for a couple of days in their PICU but they saved his life. Again when he was 12 months old he was rushed from Good Hope hospital to Heartlands hospital when they realised he was really poorly. He was too sick to be moved to BCH and they were also having trouble ventilating him. They called BCH for help and KIDS NTS came and brought doctors from BCH to Teddi. He had to be resuscitated 4 times that day and with the help of the BCH doctors he was made stable enough to transfer to BCH PICU where he stayed for 10 days. He was in BCH a total of 4 weeks and 7 days of this he was asleep and ventilated with machines keeping him alive. I have no doubt that he would not be here today if it wasn't for Birmingham Children's Hospital. In the end he was diagnosed with a life-threatening unsafe swallow and came home with a feeding tube which he used for 6 years. He has since got much better and is thriving without the tube. Thank you BCH for everything you do I'm sure Teddi is just one story out of thousands and me and Lucian will do everything we can to raise as much as we can for such an amazing cause. Teddi was actually born 4 days before Lucian 5th birthday and came home on his birthday. When he was taken so poorly it was on Lucian's 6th birthday. Below is some more information about BCH.
