PETER HIRSCHMANN

Over the course of 65 years, Peter Hirschmann collected ceramics, drawings, prints, and etchings, filling our family's home with art and enriching our lives.  We don't know when Peter bought his first ceramic, but we do know that he seriously collected art from the 1960s until his death last summer.   In 1968, when Peter and Denise lived in the US and travelled together to a scientific conference in New Hampshire, there were a number of side trips down rural roads to seek out local potters.  Almost no outing since then was complete without looking at -- and perhaps purchasing -- a piece of artwork.

Peter was committed to supporting individual artists by building relationships with them, purchasing and promoting their work, and serving as a patron and trustee.  He was drawn to the craftsmanship of individual ceramics, delighting, variously, in their solidity, delicacy, practicality and playfulness.  As can be seen in this part of his collection, Peter's tastes developed and widened throughout his life and his enthusiasm never waned.

We are grateful for the beauty he brought into our home, and to be able to share it here with a wider audience.  Denise, Cathy and Jo Hirschmann 2025

Half of the ceramic items are available for purchase from the gallery website
