Belfast City Marathon · 4 May 2025

We aim to respond to the needs of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children, young people and adults within our local communities, through the delivery of a series of key needs-led projects.

Story

If you know me you'll know I'm a bit of a Celtic Fan.... I missed the first dance at my wedding because I'd snuck off to watch us play Dundee. I couldn't tell you what my first dance song was, but I know we beat Dundee 6-2 that night, Shaun Maloney scored 2. I've missed Christenings, birthday parties, turned down gigs and rang in sick for work to watch Celtic.

But now something has come up that clashes with a Celtic game and I can't get out of it. I'm running The Belfast City Marathon on the 4th of May and Celtic will be kicking off while I'm running/jogging/walking/crawling round Belfast!

So, I decided if I can't watch the game, I may as well raise a few quid for the Celtic Foundation while I'm running/jogging/walking/crawling.

Celtic are a huge part of my life and my kids life and my fathers life, and charity has always been an integral part of the club, and The Celtic FC Foundation strive to honour the charitable principles on which Celtic Football Club was founded.

The Celtic Foundation works across the UK and Ireland (north and south) to help

From the Paradise Pitstop, which takes place in Celtic Park 4 times a week, giving anyone who wishes to join a free warm meal, a quiet space for for school children to do homework and games to keep the kids entertained. To the 67 Kitchens project, a joint venture with Mary's Meals, to build 67 Kitchens in the developing world. 47 in Malawi and 20 in Zambia. These kitchens are in school grounds and the aim is that every child gets one meal a day at school.

These are just two of the numerous projects the Celtic FC Foundation are involved in, other projects involve supporting those with Dementia and Parkinsons. They help foodbanks across the UK and Ireland also.

So please donate what you can while I take on the rather silly pursuit of running 26.2 miles! I'd like it if my sore muscles, broken feet and many many blisters could go a small way to help people less fortunate than ourselves.

And don't worry if you're of a different footballing persuasion..... The foundation helps anybody who needs it. They don't ask to see season tickets or photographs of you at Celtic Park before they help ;-)
