Story

Our daughter, Rosalie, would have now been 15 had survived. There is not a week that goes by without a part of me wondering what life would have been like if our daughter had lived.

Before she was born we knew that Rosalie was likely to have some challenges, as scans had indicated some potential heart defects. But I don’t think either of us really contemplated that she might not survive.

Nothing can prepare you for that moment of loss, when the dreams, plans and aspirations you have been building over months for your newborn daughter, are shattered within hours of her birth.

But if it wasn’t for the amazing care and support that Susie and I got from the Evelina Children’s Hospital before, during, and after Rosalie’s birth and death, our grief and trauma, and the impact it has had on us would be so much worse.

That is why in April next year I will be running the London Marathon to raise funds for the Evelina.

I know we are all often inundated with requests for sponsorship etc. But despite her very short life, we know that Rosalie was given the best care possible by the dedicated staff who tried to keep her alive. We also know that their support was crucial in helping Susie and I make sense of what had happened and process our grief.

Please do consider giving, so that others can benefit in the way that we have done.

Every year more than 103,000 children and young people experience the wonderful warmth of Evelina London, which is part of Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. They see first-hand the care and passion of the Evelina London team who are exploring new approaches and creating ground-breaking care for children and young people.

To give you an idea of the impact of your donation:

£10 could help put a childs mind at ease with imaginative toys, books and games that explain what happens in hospital.

£100 could help the team put together amazing rucksacks full of distraction toys for every ward and department.

£350 could buy even more DVD players with headphones and give every child the chance to escape into their favourite film.

Thank you so much for your support!
