Yorkshire 3 Peaks · 2 April 2025

Wakefield Hospice provides high quality palliative and end-of-life care to people with serious illnesses. We aim to meet the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of patients and their families. Thanks to everyone who raises funds to ensure we’re here to support families in Wakefield.

Story

Here at Tesco our core purpose is to serve our customers, communities and planet a little better every day. Community is at the heart of everything we do from our local Express stores to Large stores we build relationships that matter. Supporting, developing and nurturing the charities and groups which make our communities exactly what they are.

From donating supplies to help a children's allotment get off the ground. Supporting local schools with fruit and veg for dinners or helping them on their way to opening breakfast clubs we do it all.

But there's always one charity which sticks. The charity which we form the kind of bond which lasts. For us on Groups 718, 720 and 9 that charity is Wakefield hospice.

Throughout all our lifetimes we will all most likely experience care at a hospice. Either ourselves or a loved one. We will all have that special someone that will link us to a hospice.

They provide expert care and support for local people and families living with life-limiting conditions. Giving support to families through the most difficult times and supporting the move in to what is now the new normal. Without that special person by our side.

For me it is my partner Laura. The most perfect, gentle, kind and beautiful person I have ever met. After her incredible fight with cancer we found ourselves at Wakefield hospice. Within minutes of arriving we knew this was the right place. A place where we would get the most professional, compassionate and loving care we could have wished for.

Throughout the last 12 months my colleagues have lived through this with me. Offering support and once they found that hospices receive very little funding from government. Their existence relies on people, communities and business donations, they wanted to do their bit and help fund raise for the community organisation which took great care of our Laura.

So on the 2nd April colleagues from Groups involved will aim to complete the Yorkshire 3 peaks. 24 miles of walking. 1585m of ascending across the Yorkshire peaks.

Our group comprises of varying levels of fitness. Some avid walkers and some new to the trail but we all have the same goal. To complete this challenge. Prove that anything is possible when we put our minds to it, be brave and believe in each other.
