Story
At Whittington Hospital, we have an unused space that we dream of transforming into a Sanctuary Garden—a peaceful haven for our patients. What started as a casual conversation with Matron Jack has grown into a truly exciting project that has captured the hearts and minds of many colleagues.
To raise funds for the Sanctuary Garden, my colleagues and I are walking 10K. Every step brings us closer to creating this special space, and we would greatly appreciate your support and contributions.
Why does it matter to patients?
Research shows that physical activity during a hospital stay reduces the risk of falls and improves recovery outcomes. Staying mobile helps patients return home more quickly, with less need for support after discharge. This is especially important for our most vulnerable patients, including those living with dementia or learning difficulties, who often require more time and resources. Unfortunately, these patients can sometimes be overlooked in an overburdened healthcare system.
This project is deeply personal to me because I believe every patient deserves the best chance at recovery, and every caregiver deserves the support to provide that care. Transforming this unused space into a Sanctuary Garden reflects the compassion and commitment that inspired me to become a nurse in the first place. It’s an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives, and that motivates me every day.
