Story

BELVOIR CASTLE TRIATHLON IN MEMORY OF MY MUM & DAD

On 3rd July 2026 my dad died from mixed dementia. My sister and I are extremely sad but also relieved that he's been released from this terrible disease. It had a devastating effect on both our parents. Our dear mum wore herself out trying to care for him at home, and dad slipped away bit by bit until he could no longer think, walk, speak or swallow. I know that many of you, sadly, have similar personal experience.

Dementia care is still woefully underfunded and unsupported. Post diagnosis you're given little more than a leaflet to navigate what's to come.

THANK YOU for helping me to make a change!

On 19th July I completed an Olympic Triathlon to raise money for Alzheimer's Research UK. They are the UK's leading dementia research charity, working tirelessly to revolutionise diagnosis, develop treatments, and ultimately find a cure. You can read more about the incredible work they do at www.alzheimersresearchuk.org

The triathlon was a 1.5km swim / 45km bike ride / 10km run. It was exhausting!

A huge THANK YOU to all my sponsors, your support kept me going - and together we've raised a huge amount to help fund the research needed to save other families from this heartbreaking disease.

Thank you all so very much,

Tess XX
