While your baby has specialist treatment at the John Radcliffe Hospital, we provide vital support to families. We also fund equipment for the unit, invest in training for NHS staff, run Little SSNAPlings and support research projects. We stand by families every step of the way.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm doing this after spending time in the John Radcliffe hospital with Axel my baby boy in November 2021. It was a very difficult time for me. After being diagnosed with placenta previa at 20 weeks, Axel was born prematurely and with the support of this charity that time was made a little easier. There were a lot of parents and premature babies in the hospital, and some of them were there a lot longer than we were. I can't imagine how hard that would have been.

This charity is doing an amazing job. It is one of the main things I remember through a very emotional and difficult time, seeing the work they did. I will cherish Axels SSNAP memory box I was given to keep all Axels firsts in Hospital forever. They were there daily with a caring smile, sandwich and chocolate to help keep my husband and I going.

SSNAP invite staff on the Neonatal Care Unit to submit applications for SSNAP to fund medical equipment for use on the unit. This ranges from new innovative medical equipment to essentials like breast pumps and reclining chairs for improved kangaroo care. They have funded hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of vital equipment on the NCU at the John Radcliffe.

I want to do this to try and help give more support to premature babies and their parents, during their time in the John Radcliffe hospital. I'm far from a natural runner, however I'm enjoying the challenge not all, but most of the time.

SSNAP was founded in 1982 and has supported the Newborn Care Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital ever since. The unit can care for up to 56 babies at any one time and is a Level 3 Centre, the most sick and premature babies from across the Thames Valley, are looked after here in Oxford.
