Story
Dear friends,
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
On 10th October, I will be attempting to run the full length of the River Thames, from its source in the Cotswolds to the Thames Barrier in London.
I have a good pair of legs, so I better put them to use for a cause that desperately needs more funding. Motor Neurone Disease is a progressive disease that damages the cells carrying messages from the brain to the muscles. As muscles weaken, it becomes harder to walk, talk, eat and breathe. It is a desperately cruel disease. This is especially personal for me because my amazing mum, Elisa, was diagnosed with MND last year.
I am raising money for My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, supporting their vital research and their mission to create a world free of MND. There is no cure for MND. But research is making progress. Treatments are improving, and science is beginning to understand genetic and environmental factors behind MND.
The Thames has been my guide in the past. When I was a student, I swam in it every week, and rivers have continued to be a source of connection and grounding for me. So it feels right to follow this river for something that matters so much.
I’ll be attempting to run the entire route in one go. It is just over 7 marathons back to back. I’ll be passing through Oxford, Reading, Henley, Windsor, Richmond and London, and I’d love people to join for a few miles if they can. Nighttime offers (Reading to Windsor) particularly welcome! Aiming to run at around 6:30min/km.. about 35 hours overall.
My target is to raise £5,000. MND is a horrible disease, and every bit of funding helps bring us closer to better treatment and, one day, a cure.
I would be hugely grateful for any support.
Thank you,
