The Beeches Mother and Baby Unit is raising money for APP

Miles for Mums and Babies - Action on Postpartum Psychosis · 1 May 2026

Action on Postpartum Psychosis supports women and families affected by Postpartum Psychosis (PP) across the UK. We provide information and peer support, facilitate research into PP, raise awareness of this severe postnatal mental illness and we campaign for improved services.

Story

After completing an amazing 1,240 miles in 2024, The Beeches team are taking on the challenge to fundraise for APP again this year.

In May 2026, our goal of 452 miles represents the distance many families travel across the UK to access specialist Mother and Baby Units, helping shine a light on the realities of maternal mental illness.

As a team we aim to walk, run swim or bike (however people want to get their miles in!) 452 miles throughout the month - this is the distance from the UK's northernmost MBU (in Edinburgh) to the most southerly (in Dorset). At the Beeches we look after mums and babies/families from all over the country. Many mums and babies travel hundreds of miles to be together whilst mum is treated in hospital for a severe maternal mental illness. Dads, partners, families and friends may have to travel hundreds of miles back and forth to visit mum and baby.

We have also chosen the month of May in order raise awareness of Maternal mental illness throughout Maternal Mental Health Week (4th-10th May).

We thank you for taking the time to read about what we will be getting up to and we will keep you posted on our progress throughout the month - any donations will be greatly appreciated!

About APP:

Action on Postpartum Psychosis is a UK charity. We’re here to make sure mums, parents and families are supported through postpartum psychosis – a severe, but treatable, form of mental illness that occurs after having a baby and affects over 1000 new mums in the UK each year.

We offer information and peer support, facilitate ground breaking research, raise awareness and campaign for improved services.

Our life changing peer support network helps women and families affected by postpartum psychosis feel understood, supported and less isolated.
