Dan Lilley is raising money for WeMindTheGap

Running the length of the District Line · 6 July 2025

WeMindTheGap directly address and challenge social mobility through running holistic twelve-month employment programmes, delivered with unashamed love and care, for ten young people at a time. WeMindTheGap fills the gap in our young people’s lives with the things the rest of us take for granted.

Story

On Sunday 6th July, seven of us will be running the length of the District Line, station to station, from Upminster to Ealing Broadway. The route is - we think! - about 50 kilometres.

This is the second (after a long hiatus) of our Underground Line challenges - having run along the Metropolitan Line in December 2022.

For the District Line, we are raising money for another brilliant charity close to our hearts - WeMindtheGap. WeMindtheGap is a charity based in North Wales and the North West of England that helps young people disengaged with education back into education, into work and ultimately into independent adult lives. They do this through five key programmes.

WeInspire works with 11–15-year-olds that are struggling with education. Schools refer them to WeMindtheGap, who run a 12-week programme with them, centred around oracy support (debating).

WeDiscover is a 3-month virtual programme for 16–25-year-olds, based on building friendships among isolated young people.

WeGrow is a 26-week intensive paid programme designed to get young people, aged 18–25, ready for work.

WeBridge is a roll-on roll-off employment support programme, that helps link up alumni with trusted employer partners.

WeBelong is the WeMindtheGap alumni network. It provides informal support and advice for those who have historically been on WeMindtheGap programmes, and a space for them to engage with one another.

Our team on the day is: Daniel and Alex Lilley, Sam and Luke Hames, George Cook, Mark Gilmore, and Rob Newton.
