HopScotch provides free respite breaks for young people living in Scotland who have no other chance of a holiday. Our respite breaks take place at Ardvullin where children participate in a programme of educational and fun activities that help develop confidence, self-esteem, and social skills.

Story

In May, we are aiming to hike every named peak of the Pentlands, amounting to 16 miles and 6,000ft of climbing to raise money for Hopscotch Children's Charity.

Hopscotch are based locally in Edinburgh, and they give the opportunity to children from disadvantaged and vulnerable backgrounds to spend a week away at Ardvullin House, taking part in various fun activities such as canoeing, climbing, horse riding and so on.

Those who visit are contending with serious issues in their home environment such as extreme poverty, domestic violence, bereavement and for the majority this will be the only respite they’ll get throughout their entire childhood. With 25% of children currently living in poverty in Scotland (and increasing) it’s a great opportunity to help create memories and experiences for them that will last a lifetime.
