Story
Ophelia, Emmie and Lucie have teamed up to commit to a volunteering project as part of the Outwood Academy schools’ ‘Outwood Out There’ scheme, which challenges students to design and deliver their own community volunteering projects outside the classroom.
After giving it a lot of thought, the girls decided they wanted to make a meaningful difference in their local community by supporting a local food bank. As part of their project, they will be collecting donations, helping with preparations at the centre, raising awareness through advertising, and taking part in a sponsored walk to raise funds for the food bank.
St. Catherine’s Church Food Bank is a very worthy cause, providing vital support to individuals and families facing difficult circumstances. The food bank relies almost entirely on the generosity of local people, businesses and supermarkets to continue helping those who need it most.
On 5th July 2026, ‘The Helpers’ will be walking 5km along the Aire and Calder Navigation and would be incredibly grateful for any sponsorship you are able to give. Every donation, no matter the size, will help support the important work of the food bank and the people who rely on it.
A message from ‘The Helpers’:
“We want to try and make a difference and help people who aren’t as lucky as we are. We can help the world and raise money for families in need.”
