The Hydrant Hike fundraiser for The Fire Fighters Charity

Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service is raising money for The Fire Fighters Charity

The Hydrant Hike · 17 May 2025

The Fire Fighters Charity offers specialist lifelong health & wellbeing support for the UK fire & rescue community, empowering individuals and families to achieve mental, physical and social wellbeing throughout their lives. This includes serving and retired firefighters, control and support teams.

Story

On the weekend of the 17th May 2025, the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service Fire Hydrant team will be walking over 50 miles in 24 hours from Diss to Wells-next-the-Sea, to try to raise over £4,000 for the Fire Fighters Charity and we are asking if you can help by donating.

The Fire Fighters Charity started during the Second World War to support bereaved families. Now it provides invaluable support to the extensive fire service community of fire staff, former staff, and their families, includes respite, rehabilitation, and physical and mental health treatment and support.

The Fire Hydrant team are responsible for inspecting and maintaining over 22,000 hydrants across Norfolk. Our dedicated small team of hydrant technicians and support staff work hard to ensure fire hydrants are operational for crews so that they have a reliable water supply in the case of a fire whenever that may occur. The job is carried out in all weather conditions and on busy public highways making it challenging, and over the years the Fire Fighters Charity has provided essential support when members of the team have been in need. Now it is our chance to give something back and help the Charity to help others in need.”
