LR 30 for 30 - Liam & Kirsty's Kilimanjaro Climb for Sands UK

Kirsty O'Leary is raising money for Sands

Kilimanjaro Summit Climb · 1 October 2025

Sands is the charity speaking up about pregnancy and baby loss, saving babies’ lives and supporting bereaved families. Together, we are saving babies’ lives and improving maternity safety and bereavement care through research, training and campaigning.

Story

In 2025 Laser Red turns 30 years old. That is why we're pledging to complete our 30 for 30 challenge and raise a total of £30,000 for various charities over the course of the year with different activities.

For our challenge, Liam and I are climbing to the roof of Africa to raise vital funds for Sands Grimsby & Cleethorpes & Sands UK.

This challenge is entirely self funded meaning 100% of the monies raised goes directly to the charities.

The target of £5,895 was chosen as Kilimanjaro's summit is 5,895 metres above sea level.

Anyone who knows us knows we are NOT seasoned walkers or trekkers, but we are determined to take on this extreme challenge which will involve up to 15 hours of walking/climbing a day, high altitudes and extreme environments all without any home comforts (Liam is mostly worried about the lack of phone signal!)

Here's a little bit about the charity:

Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity, operates across the UK: supporting anyone affected by the death of a baby; working in partnership with health professionals to ensure that bereaved parents and families receive the best possible care; and promoting improvements in practice and funding research that could help to reduce the loss of babies’ lives.
