Story
This September (Sat 13th) I will be aiming to complete my 4th Mighty Hike for the AMAZING Macmillan Cancer Support - This involves a 26 mile hike on the stunning Northumberland coastal path.
This has always been a charity very close to my heart, but this year will be even more personal & important than ever (and a lot tougher!)…
I’m not a big sharer when it comes to these kind of things, but here goes!…
In Oct 2024, I found a small lump and was speedily diagnosed with the early stages of breast cancer (which as a non-smoker, with no family history of cancer and being generally pretty fit and healthy, was a shock to say the least!). November saw a lumpectomy op, followed in Feb to mid-June with 6 courses of chemotherapy, soon to be followed by 10 sessions of radiotherapy. I have been very lucky, as I felt something wasn’t ‘right’ and got it checked out quickly (please, please, please everyone seek help/advice if you’re worried about anything and always go for those scans when offered).
Fortunately, I’ve coped well with my treatment regime & the medical team are positive about the long term picture (as am I 🙌). During the past 9 months walking has been a massive part of my recovery journey, to help keep my body & mind strong - Whilst I’m nowhere near 26 miles (yet!), I will be upping my training now that chemo has finished and I start to feel stronger again.
If you’re still reading 😉 It would be great if you could donate to this great charity and give me that extra bit of strength and motivation.
The number of people diagnosed with cancer is growing, and every one of them needs the best support to meet their unique needs. I am lucky to have received AMAZING support from my incredible family & friends, but have seen how important this charity is to patients and their families, at the most challenging of times.
That's why Macmillan will do whatever it takes to help everyone living with cancer across the UK get the support they need right now and transform cancer care for everyone who will be diagnosed in the future.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving, once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity.
Thanks for reading & supporting my fundraising.
Lots of Love & Thanks, Karen xxx
