On Sunday 25th May, our incredible team of runners are taking part in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival to help end the pain and suffering caused by eating disorders!

Story

In May, I'll be running a half marathon in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival to raise money for Beat, a charity supporting those affected by eating disorders. I'm doing this in memory of my lovely friend Sunny, who died in May 2024 after bravely battling anorexia for several years.

This half marathon will mark almost exactly a year since her loss, but I still feel the pain of her absence as strongly as ever. Words truly can’t capture how incredible Sunny was, or how great of a loss to the world her death is. The fact she is no longer here is so incredibly cruel, unfair, and unbelievable.

When she became ill in our teens, it was terrifying to watch someone so vibrant gradually slip away. Yet even in the hardest times, neither of us gave up hope she would one day recover and be back to her happy, adventurous self. She was the brightest, funniest, and most interesting person I've ever been lucky enough to know. I miss her smile, the sound of her laugh, her dark sense of humour and unique mannerisms. I’ll never forget or take for granted the days where we were able to spend almost every waking hour in each other’s company.

Eating disorders are isolating, ruthless, and often misunderstood. They can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or body size. Beat believes they are preventable and treatable, and they work tirelessly to offer support, guidance, and hope to those suffering, as well as their loved ones.

If you’re able to, please consider donating to this cause - even small amounts are hugely appreciated. If you’re unable to contribute, I’d be so grateful if you could share this with others.

You can follow my training and progress on Strava (https://www.strava.com/athletes/56103844) and through regular updates on this page. I’m challenging myself for a sub-2-hour finish, but above all, I’m challenging myself to carry through Sunny’s love of running, her sense of adventure, and her remarkable bravery.

Thank you for your support.
