Help The Bread Maker Build a Brighter Future!
Our Vision: Bread with Purpose
The Bread Maker Coffee House is a commercially focused, model social enterprise and registered charity (Aberdeen Day Project) that produces artisan breads and bakery goods. Our core purpose is to provide meaningful training, education, and social activities to our Apprentices, adults with a learning disability who are often excluded from mainstream society.
For 20 years, we've delivered value and quality in our café and bakery. Now, we're undertaking our first major upgrade in two decades to ensure we can continue and expand our vital work!
The Refurbishment Project: Investing in Our Apprentices
We are launching a total refurbishment and upgrade of our café and kitchen space. This ambitious project has two main objectives:
1.Create an enclosed teaching and training kitchen to allow us to deliver vital practical and educational training in the form of ASDAN and SVQs to our Apprentices.
2.Craft a totally new café environment to help The Bread Maker compete in today's tough marketplace.
The Impact
The refurbishment will preserve our present seating covers while delivering the much needed training space. Crucially, the project will increase the number of people who benefit from our charity's work.
Once complete, the newly formed training kitchen will allow us to offer an additional six adults with learning disabilities the opportunity to attend The Bread Maker. We will be able to deliver a further 30 ASDAN and SVQ qualifications per annum within this protected, dedicated space.
Your support will help us complete major work including:
• The creation of the new training kitchen.
• Replacement of the shop front, including the door and windows, with a more efficient system.
• Expansion of our counter space and a new servery.
• Replacement of flooring, fixed seating, tables, and chairs.
We are also committed to meeting our sustainability goal of becoming the greenest bakery in the northeast by reducing our carbon and environmental footprint in every aspect of the refurbishment.
Our Ethos: More Than a Job
The Bread Maker offers so much more than meaningful employment. Our inclusive, holistic, apprentice centred focus ensures our apprentices are supported within the community through a wide range of therapies and activities, including:
• Educational opportunities to achieve recognised qualifications like ASDAN and SVQ.
• Art therapy to improve mental wellbeing.
• Exercise such as keep fit, yoga, and tennis to promote a healthy lifestyle.
• Supported work experience with outside employers.
• Cultural opportunities like theatre and city tours.
Currently, our apprenticeship scheme offers 24 adults with a learning disability work experience in our dedicated bakery and welcoming café. To date, we have supported over 200 adults with a learning disability and their families. This project will significantly enhance the lives of even more of our apprentices.
Help Us Reach Our Goal!
The total estimated cost for the project, including contingencies, is £370,541. We plan to time the project to coincide with the quieter trading months, and the build is scheduled to take 8 weeks. We will operate from temporary premises during the build to ensure minimal disruption to both our training and trading activities.
Every donation gets us one step closer to making this vision a reality and expanding the vital opportunities we offer to our Apprentices.
Thank you for helping us to continue our work of providing 'Bread with Purpose'.
