Empowering Adults with Learning Disabilities: Our New Training Kitchen

The Bread Maker is raising money for The Bread Maker
“Training Kitchen in Coffee House Refurbishment”
The Bread Maker is a social enterprise operating in Aberdeen city; a commercially focused enterprise producing high quality breads and confectionery. The purpose of the Bread Maker is to provide a range of meaningful employment, training, educational opportunities and social activities to adults with Learning Disabilities (Apprentices) who are excluded in mainstream society. The ethos of the Bread Maker is that of fully supporting and enabling Apprentices to work in a holistic and innovative way, offering a stimulating and positive experience to each individual, valuing and recognising their contribution and input as a team player within their thriving bespoke business. The Apprentice placements offer the Apprentices a range of work experience and job opportunities within a dedicated bakery unit and welcoming coffee house. Additionally they are supported to fully participate in the life of the city and engage in a range of social activities and learning opportunities out with their job requirements. A development program ensures that everyone has the opportunity to maximise their own potential to become a fully active member of society valued for their abilities, skills and experience.

Story

Thank you for visiting our JustGiving page.

We are excited to share our vision for 'The Bread Maker' and how your support can make a significant impact. We are embarking on a journey to completely refurbish and upgrade our café and kitchen space, with the aim of creating an enclosed teaching and training kitchen.

This vital addition will allow us to deliver essential practical and educational training, including ASDAN and SVQs, to our adults with learning disabilities, whom we proudly call our Apprentices.

In addition to the training kitchen, we are committed to crafting a brand-new café environment that will empower our bread maker to thrive in today’s competitive café culture. This marks the first major upgrade of our facility in 20 years and it is time for us to evolve!

With this project, we anticipate increasing the number of individuals benefiting from our charity's work. We expect to provide an additional six adults with learning disabilities the opportunity to attend 'The Bread Maker' while delivering 30 more ASDAN and SVQ qualifications within the newly formed protected space of the training kitchen.

Moreover, we are dedicated to reducing our carbon footprint throughout this refurbishment process. Our commitment ensures that 'The Bread Maker' meets its sustainability goal of becoming the greenest bakery in the northeast. Together, we can create a brighter future for those we serve. I invite you to join us on this inspiring journey by supporting our cause today.
