I’d like to tell you a bit about why I’m doing the 10k run at the Great Manchester Run 2025 in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.

Last year I was training for my first (and last) marathon in London and as I’m getting on a bit, I took advantage of a routine medical to check that my heart etc was ok.

As part of the medical, I had a PSA (prostate specific antigen blood test). My heart was in good nick, but my PSA was elevated and after further tests I was diagnosed with early stage prostate cancer. Thankfully, I had treatment and everything was a great success.

I’ll be taking part in the 10k run in May with a number of my family and friends, including my 2 sons Jake and Freddie and my nephew Jude, to raise awareness about prostate cancer and to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK so we can improve treatments and outcomes for men everywhere.

If there is one thing people take away from my efforts, it’s this – please get tested for prostate cancer.

Before my diagnosis, following a routine test, I had no symptoms at all.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK but the earlier it’s found, the easier it is to treat. It mainly affects men over 50 and the risk increases as you get older. If you’re Black or have a family history of prostate cancer you’re at a higher risk of getting prostate cancer from the age of 45. If you’re not sure what to do next, you can check your risk on Prostate Cancer UK’s website.

If you’re also able to support my fundraising efforts for Prostate Cancer UK that would be fantastic!
