700th Fund

The Girdlers’ Company Charitable Trust gives away c. £1m pa to some 30 charities. This is mainly thanks to the generosity of Girdlers centuries ago, supported by careful stewardship since then.

As we approach our 700th anniversary in March 2027, the Charitable Trust has launched a first-ever Endowment Fund to give many more young people transformational educational opportunities in future.

This is a generational opportunity for Girdlers, their families, past beneficiaries of Girdler giving and friends. The fund will give life-changing opportunities to young people, through education and training, which they would not otherwise enjoy. It is early days, but we are closing in on £500,000 already, with pledges for more.

Our March Livery Dinner celebrates our close ties with Aotearoa / New Zealand, in which we invest through the scholarships we provide at Oxford and Cambridge Universities. We have now added postgraduate scholarships at Corpus Christi College Cambridge for British students to the mix. Many of you dining here this evening are past beneficiaries.

The Girdlers’ unofficial motto is to ‘Do Good and Have Fun’. What better way to do so than to enjoy this evening and contribute to the next generation of opportunity? Every gift, of no matter what size, will make a difference.
