Fundraiser for The Hope Unit

Beth Hamer is raising money for Pennine Care Charity

TOUGH MUDDER · 21 September 2025

Pennine Care Charity is the charity partner of Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust. We raise funds for additional work and services not covered by the NHS core offer. Our vision is to create a happier and more hopeful life for people with mental health, learning disabilities and autism.

Story

On 21st September 2025, Kelly, Liv, Joey and Beth Hamer will be participating in TOUGH MUDDER (15k) to raise money to support staff wellbeing on The Hope Unit. This will be an incredibly difficult challenge for us all requiring high levels of physical and emotional resilience, however we believe the cause is very well worth it!

The Hope Unit is a CAMHS inpatients unit who provides care for young people between the ages of 13 and 18 who are experiencing significant difficulties with their mental health. The unit provides intensive assessment and treatment, for those who are unable to receive enhanced treatment in the community safely due to their levels of risk.

The funds raised would be used to arrange away days with the aim to improve working relationships between the team, as well as a "wobble room" where staff would be able to decompress during their breaks on difficult shifts in a welcoming and comforting environment. The team go above and beyond for the patients in our care daily. We believe the above would boost morale on the ward, support staff wellbeing which would in effect improve patient care overall - as we all know the famous saying "you cannot pour from an empty cup" is very true! The team regularly are faced with significant challenges on a day to day basis which over time can take its toll on their own wellbeing - this is something we would love to help with.
