Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am Karen Penny, and I am currently walking 25,000 miles around the coast and county boundaries of Britain and Ireland to raise vital funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK.
This walk is the continuation of a promise to keep going, to keep connecting, and to keep raising awareness for those affected by dementia.
In 2019, I began my first solo journey: walking the entire coastline of Britain and Ireland, including 110 islands. Over three years, I walked more than 10,500 miles and raised £115,000 for Alzheimer’s Research UK. I am deeply grateful to everyone who supported that walk. It was a privilege to carry so many stories with me.
Now, I walk the inland story tracing the county boundaries, those invisible lines that carry so much history, identity, and connection.
I walk in memory of my family and for all those living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
I walk to raise awareness.
I walk so others may live better, longer lives.
Along the way, I have met thousands of people, strangers who have shared their stories, their losses, their strength. Many are living with dementia. Many are carers, quietly holding the line each day. I walk for them too, with every footstep a tribute to their love and courage.
This is a campaign of remembrance, connection, and hope. I am proud to walk #ForACure, supporting Alzheimer’s Research UK’s mission to bring about the first life changing dementia treatment by the end of 2025.
This time, I am walking 25,000 miles and aiming to raise £25,000
If you would like to donate, I would love for you to also share the name of a place that holds meaning for you. It could be a village, a stretch of coast, a city street, or a quiet hill anywhere that is special to you
As the journey continues, I will be creating a map filled with these personal dedications, tiny dots of memory and hope, stitched into the coast and county boundaries I walk. In this way, your donation becomes part of the landscape too, a heartfelt thread in this patchwork of stories and remembrance.
You can follow my progress on Facebook and through my interactive walking map, which updates with each county I cross.
If you would like to support this journey, please donate. Even the smallest amount makes a difference.
Thank you so much for walking alongside me,
Karen
