Story

Thanks so much for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

This year, Joshua and I are taking part in the Kiltwalk to say thank you to The Archie Foundation for the incredible support they gave our family when Joshua was a baby.

When Joshua was born, he became seriously ill with blood clots and had to be transferred to Glasgow for several rounds of clot-busting treatment. It was an incredibly frightening and uncertain time for us. After returning to Aberdeen, Joshua was placed on anticoagulants, which meant injections twice a day along with frequent blood tests to carefully monitor and balance his clotting disorder with the medication.

We spent around a month in hospital, and even after coming home there were many more hospital visits over the following months. Then, about nine months later, The Archie Foundation provided us with a monitoring device that allowed us to check Joshua’s condition from home. This support made such a difference to our daily lives. It significantly reduced the number of hospital trips and helped us begin to enjoy a more normal routine together after such a stressful start.

Now that Joshua is older and understands how much he was helped, he is keen to walk the Kiltwalk to give something back and say thank you. I couldn’t be prouder to walk alongside him and support a charity that means so much to us.
