The Royal Welsh Rugby Ball Run Challenge

Michael Jones is raising money for The Royal Welsh

The Royal Welsh Rugby Ball Run Challenge · 15 February 2026

The Royal Welsh Regimental Welfare and Benevolence Foundation, support veterans from The Royal Welsh of all ages, from seeking employment, seeking assistance during difficult times and when in crisis.

Story

To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of The Royal Welsh a team of Royal Welsh Soldiers will run from Colwyn Bay to the Principality Stadium. Throughout the journey, the team will be carrying the match ball for the first Wales home game of the 2026 Six Nations Championship.

Both teams will run the equivalent of two marathons a day, covering 313 miles, passing the 12 founding rugby clubs of the WRU as well as the hotel where the first contract was signed in 1881. At each rugby club, the team will kick a conversion and the President of each club will sign a commemorative ball.

On the final day, the team will run onto the pitch at half time and score a conversion, before presenting the commemorative ball to the President of the WRU.

This challenge will be raising much needed funds for four nominated charities:

- The Royal Welsh Welfare and Benevolence Fun

- The Army Benevolent Fund (ABF)

- Blind Veterans UK

- Ty Hafan

All donations will be gratefully received and split equally between the four charities.
