UPDATE: The Sameer Project, in partnership with Small Steps Project, is launching a Back to School in Gaza campaign! Around the world, children are getting ready for their first day of classes - and this year, so are Palestinian children in Gaza, although “back to school” looks very different for them. Schools have been converted into shelters and repeatedly targeted by the occupation. Universities have been bombed and destroyed. Children who should be thinking about homework and seeing their friends instead spend their days worrying about finding drinking water, food, and the basic necessities of survival. But none of this has taken away their desire to learn. Education is deeply valued in Palestine, and Gaza’s children are determined to continue theirs.
Schools may be overcrowded. Classrooms may be inside tents. Desks, books, and supplies may be scarce. But with incredible teachers and principals refusing to give up, and children carrying an extraordinary will to learn, Gaza is going BACK TO SCHOOL - and we want to be right there to support them. With your help, The Sameer Project and Small Steps Project want to provide children with the basics they need to walk into their classrooms feeling prepared and proud: backpacks, notebooks, pens and pencils, clothing, shoes, socks, and other school necessities. These may seem like simple things, but for a child who has endured displacement, deprivation, and unimaginable loss, they can restore confidence, dignity, routine, and a sense of possibility. Help us give Gaza’s children what they need to learn, dream, and keep building their future.

ABOUT THE SAMEER PROJECT
The Sameer Project is a rapid-response initiative that sources and purchases goods that already exist in Gaza, and distributes it as aid to displaced families all over the Strip. Founded by 3 Palestinians in the diaspora in April 2024 and with a large presence of ground support in Gaza, we provide shelter, medication, food, water, diapers, formula, clothing and more. The project runs three displacement camps that offer support to medically vulnerably families, a school, two medical points, and we're looking for new ways to best serve the community after two years of genocide.
Our ethos is to promote resilience, dignity and agency for the families we serve. We are proactive and adaptable based on priority needs at any given time. We listen to the needs from Palestinians in Gaza and react, rather than provide conditional or imposed assistance.
Most of our campaigns and updates are on Chuffed. Funds donated via this page will be used across campaigns, depending where it's needed the most. Please check out the links below for more info on our main campaigns this winter…
> RETURN HOME: we're raising money to fuel tractors for clearing streets of rubble, waterproof tarps to insulate blown out walls, blankets, shovels and cleaning crews - anything and everything needed to help people salvage their homes, ready them in order to be habitable, and find warmth this winter. Families want to be in their areas, around their neighbours, return to populate destroyed areas - we must assist.
> MEDICAL CAMPAIGN: this is for medication, treatments, malnutrition help, wound care, physiotherapy, educational workshops to prevent the flu and hypothermia…all the medical support you can think of. This Winter, we're also dreaming big - we want to raise funds for a mobile medical clinic that can reach displaced families in their shelters and well as raise funds to continue our traveling wound care campaign that takes pressure off of hospitals by sending doctors to the patient for dressing changes. These services will be particularly helpful during the rainy season while most families lack transportation.
RELATIONSHIP WITH SMALL STEPS PROJECT
Small Steps Project has consistently and graciously provided The Sameer Project with funds to purchase and distribute footwear to the children in Gaza. Sneakers, sandals, and boots have all been supplied in collaboration with Small Steps to protect children from skin diseases, accidental injuries, the cold, chemical weapon runoff, raw sewage, and any other negative affects of being barefoot in Gaza. Their care is enormous, network of helpers invaluable, and we thank you for their ongoing support and solidarity.
