In memory of My mum

The Superhero Charity Long Walk · 19 July 2026

Proudly serving the community of East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire since 1987, we provide specialist palliative & end-of-life care to people facing a terminal illness. We're committed to giving families choices about the care they receive, providing the best support at home & at the Hospice.

Story

On Sunday 19th July 2026 at 10am, I’m organising The Superhero Charity Long Walk - along The Long Walk in Windsor.

I’m doing this in memory of my mum — my real-life superhero.

She knew how much I love superheroes — especially Spider-Man. She would always say, “You love your Spider-Man.”

But truthfully… she was the real superhero. My real-life superhero.

Ten years ago, in the last week of her life, my mum received the utmost care and respect from Thames Hospice — something our family has never forgotten.

Through this walk, I’m hoping to raise £250 for Thames Hospice and £250 for Cancer Research UK — two charities that support so many families during incredibly difficult times.

This walk is also about something that feels important for our family — encouraging open conversations around mental health and helping to rebuild trust in support services. I truly believe that when we support one another and talk more openly, it can reduce crisis and make it easier for people to seek help earlier.

Thames Hospice have an exciting art trail with giant painted elephant sculptures which we will be stampeding past. They are also on a mission to get people talking about difficult conversations and hope you can enjoy their creations for their 'Trunks across the Thames' trail whilst we walk together.

I’ll be doing the walk dressed as Spider-Man 🕷️❤️ — but there’s absolutely no pressure for anyone else to dress up. You’re welcome to wear a cape, wear pink for cancer awareness, or simply come as you are – whatever feels right for you 😊

While the walking group itself will be kept small, anyone is very welcome to come along and cheer us on along The Long Walk as we make our way towards Windsor Castle.

Your encouragement on the day, sharing this page, or making a donation will all help support Thames Hospice and Cancer Research UK, and it will mean a great deal to everyone taking part.

Even if you can’t be there in person, your support will still be felt — and deeply appreciated.

We’ll be walking not only for my mum, but for all the real-life superheroes in our lives — whether they are still with us, or watching over us.
