Hi There, I'm Shane and thank you for visiting my 'The Sweet16 Summer Challenges' fundraiser page.
On September 17 2025 our beautiful, bright and talented daughter Amelia was diagnosed with Leukaemia, a type of blood cancer.
Our world was turned upside down within a moment, and the hours, days and weeks that followed were hugely challenging as we found ourselves wrangling with shock, fear and uncertainty, whilst at the same time being quickly plunged into a whole new world of chemotherapy treatment and everything that it entails.
As parents it has been the toughest experience of our lives yet, with moments of incredible darkness, and often a feeling of wanting to do anything but actually feeling completely helpless, with our presence and our unconditional love being all and everything that we could offer.
For Amelia, as a young 15/16 girl blossoming into a young adult with many friends and happily enjoying lots of passions and interests, how cruel of a blow to see all that halted so abruptly.
Right now, we are 9 and a bit months into a 2 year Chemotherapy treatment plan, and Amelia is making fantastic progress, she is disease free and has reached the amazing milestone of completing the intensive part of treatment and is now moving into maintenance.
I have to say, to have witnessed Amelia come through the enormity of the treatment with such strength and bravery has been truly humbling and inspiring, and in a way that will impact me forever.
The amazing team at the John Radcliffe Children’s Hospital were by our side in those first moments and have continued to provide the most wonderful care for Amelia ever since.
I am so grateful to all the Consultants, Doctors, Nurses and all staff on Kamran’s Ward and across the wider Children’s Hospital.
I really want to show my gratitude and help fundraise for Kamran’s Ward and the Oxfordshire Children’s Hospital Charity, so this summer I am going to complete a series of 16 challenging physical activities that I am calling ‘'The Sweet16 Summer Challenges'.
This will include me taking challenging hiking routes up all of the UKs highest mountains, I will also be tackling some very long day hikes including the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge and other iconic hiking routes, I will also try to conquer the highest mountain in North Africa, which is around 3 times higher than anything here in the UK. There will be plenty more besides including cycling and running challenges as well.
I will be taking my red 'Oxfordshire Children’s Hospital Charity' T-shirt every step of the way will be capturing and sharing short videos of all the challenges to record the adventures … and probably a lot of panting and pain too!
It would mean the world If you would be kind to enough make a donation, of any amount, and support me in saying a huge thank you to the Children’s Hospital who do brilliant things every single to day care for so many children, who just like Amelia, have had their lives so cruelly and unfairly impacted by this terrible disease, cancer.
Thank you!
