Story

Why I’m Doing This – In Memory of My Dad, Keith Stubbs

On August 1st last year, I lost my dad, Keith, to COVID-19. He was 70 years old and lived with Myasthenia Gravis – a rare neurological condition that made him more vulnerable to the virus and sadly contributed to his passing.

Dad and I had always talked about walking Hadrian’s Wall together — one of those classic, “one day we’ll do it” plans. But life got in the way, as it often does, and we never quite got the chance.

So now, in true “go big or go home” style, I’ve decided not just to walk it… but to run it. That’s 110km (or 70 miles) in a single day — from Carlisle to Newcastle — as part of The Wall ultra marathon on June 14th. I’m doing it in his memory, to finish a journey we never got to start, and to raise funds for MyAware, the UK’s only charity dedicated to supporting people with Myasthenia Gravis and funding research into this condition.

I’d be incredibly grateful for any support you can offer — whether that’s a donation, a share of this page, or just a kind word of encouragement when I inevitably regret everything around mile 60 (this is optimistic).

This one’s for you, Dad.

Fundraising Milestones & Challenges

The goal is very high, and this is for good reason, as I really do not want to do the top challenge I have set for this run. However, I know there are a lot of people who would take pleasure in seeing me in that level of pain. But for that, I am afraid you will have to pay...

Feet don't fail me now

£10,000 - (10%): I will run 10 miles of the run in Roman-style sandals, not proper running sandals. Blisters guarateed. Dignity, less so.

When in Rome

£25,000 - (25%): I'll run the race dressed in a Roman Legionary costume, tunic, cape, the works...

Are you not entertained?

£50,000 - (50%): If we hit £50,000, I will get a tattoo to mark the journey, voted for by the donators to the cause. I think £50,000 is worth some permanent skin real estate

Strength and Honour

£100,000 - (100%): If we hit £100,000, we go full Gladiator. I will run the ultramarathon in full Gladiator or Legionaries armour. Breastplate, Helmet, Shin Guards, Tunic. This target has to be ridiculously high, because I REALLY do not want to do it
