Help support people across Oxfordshire who are living with dementia.

Story

"Dementia Oxfordshire" is part of Age UK Oxfordshire, a local charity dedicated to enabling people with Dementia to maintain their independence and live life to the full.

As we race through life, at times we are presented with challenges too big to circumvent ourselves, charities like 'Dementia Oxfordshire" are there to help us and our loved ones navigate these road blocks.

The Wanderers are a group of 6 life long pals who are initially walking the "Sarria-Santiago" section within the Camino Frances in October 2026. A 115Km route which will take them to the final destination of the overall Pilgrimage "Santiago de Compostela".

In spring 2027 some of the team will go back to walk the full route from "St Jean Pied de Port in France to "Santiago de Compostela" in Spain a route of 800Km's crossing the Pyrenees and through the stunning Basque Country.

The Wanderers are -

Mick "The Fish" Routledge - Steve "The Hat" McKeaveney - Craig "Bad Joke" Wright - Pete "Shout" Carlin - Tom "Stop me now" Evans and Ed "Peter Pan" Milner.

Young Onset Dementia - The blunt reality.

As of September 2022, Dementia UK estimated that there are 70,800 people living with YOUNG ONSET dementia in the UK. That means, of everyone living with dementia, 7.5% of them developed symptoms before the age of 65.

The average time to diagnosis is 4.4 years in younger people compared to 2.2 years for people aged over 65

On average, a person may see between two and five different consultants before a diagnosis is made

There are differences in the types of dementia commonly diagnosed in YOUNGER PEOPLE with dementia compared to those of an older age. https://www.dementiauk.org/information-and-support/dementia-types/
