Marie Curie Hospice, Edinburgh provides expert care, guidance and support to people living with a terminal illness and their families.

Story

I’m running the the full marathon during Dramathon this year in memory of my friend and colleague, Kenny, who sadly passed away recently after being diagnosed with oesophageal cancer.

Kenny was a great guy, a brilliant friend and colleague, and a much-loved husband and dad. When I joined Royal Mile Whiskies, Kenny was the person who trained me and who I worked most with. Whilst my role has evolved and I haven't worked with him as much in recent years, we're a close knit team and I'll never forget our time working together in the warehouse. He leaves behind his wife and young family, as well as his parents and brother.

Kenny was a keen runner and loved getting out and running the hills, so when I decided to take on the Dramathon, it felt like a fitting way to remember him. Kenny had actually given me his blessing to run in his name, which truly means a lot to me.

When I first found out about Kenny’s diagnosis, I was shocked. It really made me think about my health and about making sure I look after myself and get fitter, so that I can hopefully be here for my own family for as long as possible. That was a big part of why I signed up for the Dramathon in the first place.

When we then found out that Kenny’s cancer was terminal, I was absolutely gutted for him, and his family. There’s obviously very little you can do in a situation like that, but I wanted to do something small in Kenny’s memory and to give something back to the organisations that supported him and his family during his final days.

Marie Curie Hospice Edinburgh played an important part in Kenny’s end of life care and in supporting the family, and I’d really like to raise some money to help them continue the amazing work they do.

I know times are tough, so absolutely no pressure to donate. But if you can spare anything, no matter how small, it would mean a lot to me, and Kenny’s family, and hopefully we can raise a decent amount in his memory.

If you can't donate, sharing the page or giving me a bit of encouragement ahead of the race will be very much appreciated.

This one's for you, Kenny. ❤️

See you on the hills in Speyside mate.
