Story
Last year, Cardiff Foodbank provided over 20,000 emergency food parcels, each containing three days’ worth of food for people facing crisis. Many of these parcels went to families, with one in three supporting households with children.
Cardiff Foodbank’s vision is simple but powerful: No one in Cardiff should go hungry. But with rising demand and the increasing cost of food and everyday essentials, more people than ever are turning to the food bank for support.
Since having Marley ourselves, Leigh and I have seen just how quickly the costs can add up. We’re very fortunate that we’ve never had to worry about providing baby essentials or the foods he enjoys. Sadly, for many families across Cardiff, that’s not the reality.
That’s why I’ll be taking on the Cardiff Half Marathon, running 13.1 miles to raise awareness and support for Cardiff Foodbank.
Summer is one of the toughest times of the year for the food bank, as donations often fall while demand remains high. They are always in need of items such as cereal, tea, coffee, UHT milk, toothbrushes, bars of soap, cleaning spray, tinned tomatoes, tinned vegetables, tinned fish, rice, sponge puddings, tinned fruit, washing up liquid and crackers.
As well as raising funds, we’re hoping to do some “foodraising” this summer too. Whether you donate through this page, drop off a few items to us, or leave them at one of the food bank’s donation points, every contribution really does make a difference.
A three-day emergency food parcel contains around 10 kg of food. As I’m taking on a 13.1-mile half marathon, I’ve set myself the target of collecting 131 kg of food enough to provide 13 emergency food parcels, representing one person’s three-day food parcel for every mile of the course.
Cardiff Foodbank can only continue its incredible work because of the generosity of people who are able to give whether that’s money, food or their time.
Thank you so much for your support. Every donation, no matter how big or small, helps ensure that no one in Cardiff has to go hungry.
