Story
As part of MONY Group, I am taking on the Balkan Three Peak Challenge, hiking against suicide this June, in aid of Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).
Over 7 intense days, I'll be tackling three of the Balkans' highest peaks across four countries:
Mount Korab (2,764m) - the highest peak in both Albania and North Macedonia
Mount Gjeravica (2,656m) - Kosovo's highest mountain
Zla Kolata (2,534m) - Montenegro's highest summit
That's a total elevation gain of over 4,100m (13,500 ft) across challenging terrain, including boulder fields, steep ridges, and karst landscapes. We'll be hiking up to 10 hours a day, covering distances of up to 20km through remote wilderness where bears and wolves still roam free.
CALM is a suicide prevention charity on a mission to help people end their misery not their lives. Right now, someone in the UK takes their own life every 90 minutes. CALM exists to change this.
They run a life-saving helpline for anyone affected by suicide or suicidal thoughts, and their website is packed with tools and resources to make talking and managing mental health easier.
They also run vital campaigns to increase awareness, smash stereotypes, and change the culture around mental health and suicide.
Just as climbing these mountains will be challenging but achievable with support, CALM believes that with the right help and support, people can overcome their struggles.
Just £12.20 could answer a life-saving call to CALM's suicide prevention helpline. Help me save lives today as I push myself to new heights for this vital cause.
Target: £995 (approximately £1,250 with Gift Aid)
