Running the London Marathon for the Martlets – My Story
Running has always been a passion of mine, but now it’s also a way for me to give back to a charity that means so much to me.
As some of my friends and colleagues know, last December marked ten years since I lost my wife, Penny Dann, to cancer. It was a devastating experience that came out of nowhere—one that, sadly, so many of us will face in our lives.
During that incredibly difficult time, Penny chose to be cared for by our local hospice, the Martlets. At the time, we knew very little about them, but they quickly became an incredible source of support in her final weeks. The Martlets is a place filled with love, compassion, and dignity, and it helped us more than I can ever express. It also holds a very special place in my heart because it’s where Penny and I were married.
The following April, after losing Penny, I ran the Brighton Marathon to raise money for the Martlets. Since they rely very much on donations, it felt like a small but meaningful way to give back—especially as running has always been a big part of my life.
Now, ten years later, I’ve decided to do it again. On April 27th, I’ll be running the London Marathon in support of the Martlets. If you’d like to support me and this incredible charity, please click the link below.
Thank you so much.
With love,
Tom
