Story
It’s that time of year again where I sign up for something because I can — and then immediately remember how much training is involved. But here we are, lacing up once more, this time for the Sydney Marathon, running in partnership with Cure Leukaemia to raise funds for the very treatments that once saved my life.
What makes this even more special is that this is Cure Leukaemia’s first time ever at the Sydney Marathon — just like it was in New York when I ran there. And I get to be a part of it again. To be a trailblazer for this incredible charity on the world stage, helping take their mission global, is something I don’t take lightly.
If you’ve followed my story, you’ll know why this means so much. At 15, I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. I relapsed at 17. My life became a blur of chemo, pain, isolation, and fear. But through it all, the one thing I held onto was hope — and that hope was only possible because of access to treatment, research, and people who didn’t give up on me. That’s what Cure Leukaemia provides — hope, through action.
So why am I running?
— I’m running for me. Because I can. Because I once couldn’t even walk around the block.
— I’m running to show people that anything is possible, even when life gives you its worst.
— And most importantly, I’m running for everyone who didn’t get to live. For the kids. The parents. The grandparents. The friends who didn’t get a second chance.
Every donation you make helps fund clinical trials that push boundaries, extend lives, and in some cases, save them entirely.
It’s not just money — it’s moments.
Your donation means a dad gets to walk his daughter down the aisle.
It means a child gets to grow up with their mum still by their side.
It means a grandparent gets to surprise their grandkids on Christmas morning.
Cure Leukaemia is a global force changing the way we treat blood cancer — they connect patients with revolutionary clinical trials, giving people access to potentially life-saving treatments when time is running out.
So please — if you can spare a little, it goes a long way. And if you can’t donate, share my page. The more people we reach, the more lives we can impact.
This one’s for everyone who fought and for those still fighting.
