We would like to introduce you to a cute little pony known as Little Jo, who has recently returned to Thornberry. She has had a lovely home for many years but sadly her companions have now passed and she has come back into our care.

While settling in, we noticed her behaviour to be a little erratic, sensitive, and at times very stallion like. This was upsetting to see and raised concerns for her wellbeing.

Our vet took bloods and on the results of those a scan was taken of Little Jo's ovaries. It revealed an upsetting sight, ovarian tumours the size of a small football.

These are known as granulosa cell tumours (GCTs). They are often benign and usually unilateral, as in Little Jo's case, and cause an hormonal imbalance along with a personality and behaviour change.

Poor Little Jo now has to be on her own during turn out to protect herself and her friends.

The tumours can occur at all ages, although the average age is 10 and our little pony is now just 13 years old.

As the tumour is already quite large, we desperately need to send her to Rainbow Equine Hospital to have the tumour removed.

The cost is going to be £3000. If you can help in any way we would be so grateful.
