National Three Peaks Challenge · 8 June 2024

Our mission at Open Medicine Foundation (OMF) is to fund and initiate collaborative and groundbreaking research into finding effective treatments and ultimately a cure for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), Long COVID and related diseases.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

We, a group of 14 lads, are embarking on the National UK Three Peaks Challenge to raise awareness and funds for Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME). A dear childhood friend of a couple of the lads, Nick Benton has been suffering and battling the symptoms of ME for over 18 months.

Guided by his recommendation, we are dedicating our efforts to support the vital research conducted by The Open Medicine Foundation in this area.

Our aim is to walk up the three highest mountains, in the three different countries, all within just 24 hours; Snowden in Wales, Scaffell Pike in England and finishing with Ben Nevis in Scotland. We’re doing this challenge to increase understanding and raise funds to advance research for this illness.

Nick’s life has been completely halted by this illness. Due to the severity of his condition he has been struggling immensely, experiencing chronic fatigue and the inability to use his sight and hearing which has left him bed bound for the best part of a year.

ME is something which is drastically underfunded by our healthcare system and a condition which not many people are aware of. Any kind of support will mean a lot.
