In August we’re climbing the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales, all in 24 hours.

We’re doing it for a special needs school in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. The school cares for around 40 children, and demand has outgrown the facilities they have. What we raise will go toward a proper new school building, with full walls to keep out the dust some of the children react to, a tiled floor, and a room built around them rather than the other way round.

This challenge had been on our minds for a while, and being of Sri Lankan heritage, doing something for home had been on mine too. Unfortunately it took losing my uncle recently to turn it into action. He led quietly, gave generously, and put others before himself. This cause was close to him, and the new building will carry his name. Donations go through the Arobanam Children Fund, a registered UK charity, to the Sivapoomi Trust in Kondavil, Jaffna, which runs the school and its building work.

Alex is one of those friends who’s always up for it. Not Tamil, just someone who said yes the moment I asked.
