Story
Over the last 2 years we have had the opportunity to raise over £25,000 for both Cancer Research UK and Dementia UK through the BIG Commute and BIG Climb Challenges. Having reached this milestone achievement, we are proud to announce that that this year, thyssenkrupp Materials UK will be supporting Macmillan Cancer Support through our latest fundraising initiative: The BIG Walk Challenge.
Taking place on the 4th – 5th September 2025, this year’s challenge will push us even further and is set to be an exciting and demanding adventure. Our dedicated walking team consists of a total of 16 incredible colleagues from various divisions across our business:
A group of 9 determined walkers will embark on a 24-hour long-distance journey from our Milton Keynes site to our central materials hub in Cradley Heath. An additional 3 people will be relaying and joining the teams halfway through their journey, completing the walk for the remaining 12 hours of the challenge.
We will also have a team of 6 walkers from our Belfast sites in Northern Ireland who will brave a 14 hour walking tour to the city’s must-see sights!
In addition to this 24 hour walking challenge, we will be running an inclusive company wide, week-long 250,000 Steps Challenge, to further aid us in fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support. Colleagues taking part in both the BIG Walk and our Steps Challenge represent Northern Ireland, Coil Processing, Fabrications, the Centres of Excellence for Long Product, Flat Product, and Waterjet cutting, as well as the Central Materials Hub in the Midlands.
This great challenge has been created to raise awareness and funds for Macmillan Cancer Research, supporting their work to provide vital cancer services, research and campaign to achieve better cancer care, and support the cancer workforce. We believe that with your generous support, we can make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.
