In August 2025, I had an Ischaemic Stroke caused by a hole in my heart and ‘sticky blood’, my stroke made me suffer an infraction to my brain - meaning some of it is dead and never going to work again (the dead part of my brain is about the size of a 50 pence piece!). The stroke has affected the speech part of my brain permanently, I had to have 6 weeks of mandatory speech therapy, and I occasionally slur words and mispronounce them sometimes (I am SO much better at speaking than I was!!!)

I was introduced to the Different Strokes charity during my time in hospital, and the welcome I received when joining was overwhelming. They really helped me realise that I wasn't suffering alone, other people were going through the same experiences as me and that they were there to support and listen to me.

So to show my appreciation for Different Strokes for all they’ve done for me, I will be taking on the huge challenge of running the 10th anniversary edition of the London Landmarks Half Marathon in April 2027 for this special cause!! The target I need to aim for is to raise £500 for the Different Strokes charity - which is where you come in please!!! 🙏
