Why We're Raising Money for Brain Tumour Research
This year, we're supporting Brain Tumour Research because this cause is deeply personal to us.
Just recently, my brother-in-law lost his life after a nine-month battle with glioblastoma, one of the most aggressive and devastating forms of brain cancer. He was a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a friend, and a colleague. He leaves behind a beautiful wife, a 12-week-old baby boy, four other children, and a family whose lives have been changed forever.
The impact of a brain tumour doesn't stop with one person. It ripples through families, friendships, workplaces and communities.
Sadly, his story is not unique. In recent months, another colleague's mother-in-law has lost her life to glioblastoma, and many more people across our team have shared stories of loved ones affected by brain tumours. Almost everyone knows someone whose life has been touched by this disease.
What makes this even harder to accept is that brain tumours remain one of the most underfunded areas of cancer research. Despite being the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40 in the UK, only around 1% of the national spend on cancer research has historically been allocated to brain tumours. Every year, nearly 13,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with a brain tumour, and more than 100,000 people are living with the impact of a brain tumour diagnosis. Brain tumours are also associated with significantly poorer survival rates than many other cancers.
We believe that can and must change.
We're raising money for Brain Tumour Research because research offers hope. Hope for earlier diagnosis. Hope for better treatments. Hope for longer, better-quality lives. And ultimately, hope for a cure.
Every pound donated will help fund vital research and strengthen the case for greater investment from government, healthcare systems and the pharmaceutical industry. The more we understand about brain tumours, the closer we get to preventing other families from experiencing the heartbreak that so many have already faced.
If you're able to give, please do so generously.
In memory of those we've lost. In support of those living with a diagnosis today. And in the belief that together we can help change what the future looks like for people affected by brain tumours.
Thank you for your support. ❤️
