Story
I am joining Team Newton Dee for the Mighty Stride (18 miles from Banchory to Aberdeen) of the KiltWalk Aberdeen 2026.
We are raising funds for our Capital Development Fund. Our current project is the construction of a new Bakery and Confectionery. For those who know us, our Bakery and Confectionery are very popular. Baking fabulous artisan breads, delicious cakes, and the best scones and croissants.
We work together with adults with learning difficulties and other special needs to build skills and provide meaningful work. We focus on what we can do, not what our disabilities are. But our current Bakery and Confectionery building has seen better days. And the required repairs would mean closing these busy and much-loved workshops for over a year to carry out all the necessary work. So instead, we started to build a new building up near our Store and Cafe. All our shops and public gateways in one convenient location. This would also help reduce traffic and make the centre of our village a lot safer. The wonderful community support approach of inclusive social development will be further enhanced with the about to be mostly pedestrianised centre of Newton Dee.
The new Bakery and Confectionery will also be much more efficient, reducing our carbon footprint and running costs for heating, and it will improve the layout and function of the spaces as a therapeutic workshop.
This will allow ideas for a central space for the community and those joining the workshops during the day to become reality in the location of the old Bakery and Confectionery
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.
Your support is much appreciated. It will fuel the team’s motivation and make a difference to people working in the Newton Dee Bakery and Confectionary.
