Next year in April, I'll be taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon in support of The Police Children's Charity – a charity that has been there for my family at some of the hardest times.

When I was little, I lost my dad to suicide. He was a highly respected police inspector in Sussex and in an instant, life changed for my mum, my brother, my sister and I .

The Police Children's Charity helped us through some of the hardest times .They gave us opportunities to go on holidays with other children from police families who had experienced loss or other life-changing circumstances. Those holidays helped us realise we weren't alone. We made friendships that have lasted into adulthood, and for a little while, we could just be children again.

Their support didn't stop there. They also supported my mum when she needed it, helped me with my driving lessons as I got older, and gave me access to different services and an insight of what my dad’s job entailed .Their support has been there through different stages of our lives, helping us rebuild and move forward together.

One thing I've always carried with me is the feeling that, even after losing my dad, we were never forgotten. The Police Children's Charity made us feel that the police family still looks after its own, and that meant more than I can ever put into words.

Now it's my turn to give something back.

On race day, every mile I run will be for my dad, for my family, and for the children and families who need this charity today.
